Site Visit to Loru CCA Highlights Climate Action and Community Collaboration

Today marked a significant milestone with a site visit led by MOCC to Loru Community Conservation Area (CCA), the only CCA in Vanuatu currently implementing carbon credit initiatives. The visit brought together key stakeholders and partners committed to advancing sustainable development and environmental protection. Distinguished delegates in attendance included the Director of the Department of Climate Change (DoCC), the First Secretary of the New Zealand High Commission, the Assistant Secretary General of SANMA Province, the CEO of the Utilities Regulatory Authority (URA), the Director of Live & Learn Vanuatu (LLV), as well as local chiefs and community members. The day’s activities showcased both progress and partnership. A solar lighting system was officially handed over to support the Loru CCA, improving access to clean and reliable energy. Delegates also participated in a bush walk and tree planting activity, reinforcing the shared commitment to conservation and climate resilience. An important highlight of the visit was the Environment Plot, established with fencing materials funded by the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation (DEPC). This initiative demonstrates practical support for community-led environmental management. We extend our sincere appreciation to the biodiversity and conservation team for their dedication and collaboration with partners such as LLV in delivering key priorities. Strengthening partnerships remains essential as we continue working together to enhance livelihoods and promote sustainable community development.
